The genetic map.

Bar colour on each animal is its bloodline, and each generation is laid out in bloodline order so a line reads down the chart. An orange dot in the corner of a plate means Fire Sky owns the animal. Names and registrations are always drawn, so the map still reads with colour vision differences or in print.

Every Fire Sky line traces to a foundation cow, or to a blend of them.
Select a line to lay the whole line out on the map, generation by generation. Select it again to return to the pedigree view. The count is how many animals in the public record carry it — an animal takes its dam's line, which is how a maternal stud line works.
Read it as a record.
Everything the map is showing, listed in order with sire, dam, bloodline, horn and inbreeding.
It updates as you move the map, select a bloodline or set a filter.
What the number is, and what it isn't.
It is Wright's coefficient of inbreeding, worked out from the recorded pedigree: the probability that an animal's two copies of a gene are both descended from the same ancestor. Up to and including 6.3% we call low, from there to 12.5% medium, and anything above that high. The boundaries sit where the matings do — 6.25% is what a half-sibling cross produces, 12.5% a full-brother-and-sister or parent-and-offspring one.
It is a floor, not a verdict. We calculate it on the pedigree we hold — five generations at best, and shallower on the imported lines. An ancestor we have no record of is treated as unrelated, so the true figure can only be the same or higher, never lower. Read it as a signal for planning a mating, not as a registry statistic. Where an animal has no recorded parents at all, no figure is given: that is missing evidence, not a zero.
